The meaning of Urdhva implies aroused, raised or erect and dhanur symbolize for bow. Both “wheel posture (Chakra asana)” and “raised bow posture (urdhva-dhanurasana)” briefly describe the appearance of this asana.

It is generally pronounced as chu-krah-sa-na.
